Gael & Gaul: Theatre in Education (March 2003) |
|
Featured in these pictures is a range of classes from Beech Hill College participating in the recent Gael and Gaul 'Language in Conflict' drama in Monaghan County Museum. This was a presentation produced by John Gribben and the 'Upturn Theatre in Education'. The project arose from a realisation of the need for greater communication and an appreciation of cultural diversity within ever increasing multicultural environments. It highlighted the link between Ireland and France placing language in a cultural context. " |
Both French and Irish language students from first and second years attended the productions over a number of afternoons. The aims of the project were embraced by all students. Through the use of workshops and dramatisation language skills were developed, knowledge of shared heritage was appreciated and a tolerance for cultural diversity was promoted.

The French teacher, Ms. Metcalfe and the Irish teacher, Ms. Mulholland along with their students agree that this event was a worthwhile and enjoyable learning experience. |
